THAT WORK

Over the past couple of the weeks I've begun to realize that New York City's disco-infused group THAT WORK is one of the metro's best kept secrets.  Having only released three songs without an EP or album to their name, the band appears to be hidden with only 228 followers on SoundCloud and 390 likes of Facebook.  I am sure those numbers are going to skyrocket in the upcoming months, for these guys are just too good for them not to.  Their most recent song, "Act Like You Know", carries a synthy flare much in the same light as Holy Ghost!  When stripped to the bone, THAT WORK's material is indebted to older disco influences yet also finds ways to incorporate sounds that are much more relatable to the modern era.  "Act Like You Know" continues this pattern, coming across as an edgy, cutting jam that leaves the perfect amount of room for a dancing option. Strange Talk

I'm back!  And there's nothing better than returning to work after a week in the sweltering desert in the middle of nowhere and then being greeted with an energetic and lively track that subsequently removes you from the realities of the world once more.  When you listen to "Cast Away" by the Melbourne four-piece Strange Talk, you become completely absorbed in its delivery, its draw, and its message.  In this sense, Strange Talk has landed upon a gem; "Cast Away" is friendly to listeners of all ages and genres, delivering relatable qualities that dodge the pattern of recycled pop garbage.  For this, Strange Talk has successfully been able to carve out a unique enough niche to garner the attention of people all over the interweb.  In these days, that means the world.  I'm confident that the infectious synth washes will win you over, too.  "Cast Away" comes to you as the first single off of their debut album, which is due out in the early months of 2013.  Coinciding with the audio release of "Cast Away" is the music video for it, something you can thank Nylon Magazine for debuting.  I've posted the video for "Cast Away" below, but if you want the usual audio stream I've included the SoundCloud player below it.  Since I know you'll be tempted, you can learn more over at Facebook, Twitter, or listen to more of their work at SoundCloud.  Get listening!

The Cataracs & Borgeous & Taylor Bird

I think just about everyone knows about the classic song "Let The Good Times Roll", it's the kind that has been immortalized in the annals of music history.  It has been covered a large volume of popular artists and bands throughout its tenure, but I don't think it has been taken quite like this before.  The first piece of the pie is The Cataracs, an artist from Berkeley who has teamed up with the likes of Waka Flocka Flame prior.  The second is Borgeous, a fun and energetic producer who I have written about before for his fist-pumping bangers.  The last contributor is Taylor Bird, another musician from Hollywood.  These three have teamed up to release a remix of "Let The Good Times Roll" featuring the voice of the late great Freddie King, and boy does it bump.  There really isn't much else to say except just that; it will make you want to jump around.  Oh!  That and it's offered for a free download over at SoundCloud.  If you want to give your pregame mix a little boost, this just might do the trick.  Have a listen to it below.

Booty Thrill

The Dallas native Booty Thrill first started off his music study with guitar as his main instrument, but you wouldn't be able to tell from his newest release Thrillwave. Instead of focusing on guitars, Thrillwave is actually a dream come true for disco and funk aficionados; synthesizers and heavy bass lines are the main arteries that keep it alive.  There is even something here hip-hop heads, for this is the first time that Booty Thrill includes rappers with his mixes.  When all is said and done, the combination of music genres creates a colorful palette.  You can expect electronic, jazz, soul, and even R&B.  I've put "Been So Long" and "Bungalow Funk" below for your listening pleasure, but you can hit up his Bandcamp for a free download of Thrillwave.  Facebook works for some likes, Twitter is up and running, and SoundCloud is good for some streams.

The Other Tribe

I was lucky enough to be hit up this afternoon by The Other Tribe, a group from Bristol, who put out a remix of their song "Skirts" by Don Diablo.  If the original didn't have enough dance motion to it, Don Diablo certainly made the cut with his injection of dubstep flare.  The main basis of the song remains similar, but the breakdown is totally different.  Both work well for summer bangers, and I myself look forward to drinking underneath the beats of both versions.  I've posted the two of them below, so go ahead and have a look!

One of things I try to do if given the chance is post a dance track on the blog before the weekend.  This way you can have an extra song to throw on your playlist for parties, pregames, or whatever the likes may be that make up your weekends.  I was given this opportunity today when I received an original mix of "It's You" by Borgeous & Club Life feat. Sophie Leonard.  As I am sure you would expect, it is an uptempo banger, dressed up in fist-pumping synths and topped off with an addictive little backbeat.  Not to mention, I'm a sucker for dance-tracks like this that feature female vocals.  In this case, Sophie Leonard fits the bill quite well.  I've posted a stream of it below, and luckily they offer it for a free download over on their SoundCloud.  Have a great weekend everyone, live it up!

Vulgar Refund Of The Proverbial Shock

Before you ask yourself anything, allow me to answer a question that is probably searing through your skull right now.  Yes, the image you are viewing to the right of this text is the album cover for Vulgar Refund Of The Proverbial Shock's forthcoming release, entitled AKA.  If nothing else, the picture fits in perfectly with the one word I see constantly popping up on all of their media pages: "peculiar". Allow me to tell you first hand; this is truth.  Yet, peculiar bands have a strange way of captivating you, and I would be lying if I told you I wasn't enjoying their two singles "Emergency" and "Addiction".  VROTPS is a French group in every sense of the word, not only are they from France but they make some serious French-infused electropop shoe-shakers.  It's very upbeat and catchy, edited down a little bit and there is some definite club material to be had.  Not to mention, much like their album photo, they're extremely provocative.  "I like it when I wear your dress, I like the way it feels on me, I like it when I make a mess" is one of the verses in "Addiction", followed by "I like the way you play your game, and all the dirty things you do, I like the way you scream my name, when I give it all to you".  Odd, yes, but I can't deny the fact that I've been jamming out to it today.  It's actually very good.  Anyway, I wanted to give you all some dance music for the 4th of July festivities!  I realized how rude I was in my last post for not wishing you all a happy holiday and relaxing day off. Keeping in line with the previous post, I am yet again posting a remix.  It's rare, but with the amount of awesome remixes I'm receiving in my inbox I might just have to make it more commonplace.  This one comes to you from Jonah Cordy, who goes under the name Kites With Lights.  He's just dropped a remix of "This Stuff", which is undoubtedly entitled "This Stuff (Klub Mix)".  It's an addictive little dance tune, upbeat and easily accessible for just about anybody's ears.  Best part is that he's offering it up for free, one option of download being Bandcamp and the other being SoundCloud.  So go snag it up!

For today's post I figured I'd switch it up a little bit. Now, I rarely write about dance music or anything dubstep, which is due to a mix of two facts; one is that I'm not as knowledgeable on the topic and the other being I'm simply not as enchanted by dubstep-influenced songs like other people are.  That being said, when Aylen sent over his new Distantt remix "Infinity", I was surprised when I felt the need to post. Technically the reworked version falls under the category of moombahton, which is a genre that has recently been growing in popularity.  Moombahton is a form of electronic dance music that borrows aspects of reggaeton and in many cases dubstep, the result of which is pretty unique.  "Infinity" is a near six-minute long banger that flows in and out of many sections, so within this mix there is a little bit here for someone.  And for those not so keen on dubstep, "Infinity" is pretty light on that.  So feel free to check it out below, and you can also go to the SoundCloud for a free download.  Enjoy!
